Hawaiian Tropic Zone 5.23.09
Hawaiian Tropic Zone 5.23.09 UFC Fighters Dave Kaplan and George Roop after party, Shanda Panda Hosts and Pittsburgh Slim performance.
Memorial weekend on the Las Vegas Strip is always busy, and this day was no exception. People were coming in by the bunches. Also because Hawaiian Tropic Zone has an outside bar area that is literally on the strip there were groups of people just trying to get a glimpse of what was happening inside the club. This was only helped when
Inside the fighters were mingling with the crowd and even though they fought earlier in UFC 98 they are actually quite good friends and had a blast at the party. The party never got slow until it was time to kick everyone one and the ladies open bar from 11-12 helped get everyone’s spirits up early.
At the end of the night all the talent, the UFC fighters, Shanda Panda and Pittsburgh Slim got together outside to take some pictures for the Red Carpet. We got some really good ones of George Roop (who won the fight) and "Diamond" Dave Kaplan messing with Shanda Panda.
All and all it was a great night, the turn out was phenomenal and the DJ finally played some good music after midnight. Everything went off without a hitch and next time we hope to see you there!
Spin Doctors at VooDoo Beach May 21st 2009

I just saw the Spin Doctors perform at
They started out the night playing 'What time is it?' and old favorite and the crowd got into it. After that Chris Barron the lead singer got friendly with the crowd pointing at random people and saying "hey you look good tonight, have you done something with your hair?" and "Your looking good i can see you have been working out" which got some laughs from the crowd. The whole concert you could see the stage presence of Chris and the band. All and all they put on a great show. The sound was good and clean and the solos were solid. When they played 'little miss can't be wrong' the crowd really started to move. But in between the old favorites they mixed in some songs from their newest album 'Nice Talking to Me' which most of the crowd did not know. After they played 'Two Princes' most of the crowd left hearing all the songs they came to hear and open bar was over so no need to stay. They played a couple more songs after that and said their good-byes.
It was a good night with a good show, the only bummer on the night was the open bar. There was only one bar serving it and they ran out of the keg about 30 minutes into the event. For some reason then it took almost 30 minutes to get another keg in and get it chilled.
The New Joint and Steakhouse at Hard Rock
Well so we finally got to see what the Hard Rock has been up to for the last year with all the remodeling and closing the Joint for the 'New Joint' as they were open a couple days ago for press and VIP's walk through.
Jeff Martin our VP of Operations and I went down to check it out. And what can I say but its good to see
people still do good work.
The Joint is a massive venue for concerts with a killer sound system and VIP boxes yes VIP boxes for a concert not a sporting event. Each box has a flat screen couple of couch’s and 15 seats for your party to view the concert with. They really have thought of everything and will surely be able to attract the best bands to play there.
As for the Rare 120 Steakhouse the venue is nicely decorated and has a nice ambiance. Rare 120 will be run by the nightclub management insuring it will have a more hip feel to it then just any steakhouse. We tried the Kobe Beef Lollipops which were just one of the many things on the menu. Looks like the Hard Rock hit a home run on these two new spots.
Scott Weiland at LAX
Well, what can I say after keeping the audience waiting for more then 45 minutes (suppose to have started at 10pm) a “funked” out Scott Weiland took the stage with a look of David Bowie. Bleach blond hair matted to his head parted to the side tight pants and a shirt and tie made his attire. /span>
The band started out playing some of their new stuff from their Happy in Galoshes album playing “Paralysis”, “Killing Me Sweetly”, and “Missing Cleveland” which didn’t seem to impress the crowd too much, then played a cover of a song from his "favorite band" too bad it wasn't anyone else's. /span>
Then they finally gave the crowd what they came to hear playing Stone Temple Pilots "Interstate Love Song" It was defiantly a toned down version since it was supposed to be an acoustic set, they played without a bassist the drummer only had a snare hi-hat and a crash symbol. Despite not the same sound the crowd belted out every word and seemed to be finally getting into the show. /span>
Then the Bowie looking Weiland decided to get into the sprit a little more playing "Fame" which sounded really good and continued the high sprits for the crowd. But after another one of their news songs and a 5 minute explanation of a song that no one could hear since Weiland now at this point seemed to be completely out of it not even talking into the microphone or looking at the crowd.
The sober Weiland seemed to be on something or just completely out of it. After that song the Management at LAX decided enough is enough and DJ Hollywood came on "Scott Weiland everyone! Give it up for Scott Weiland" then went into his normal club mix.
The band a little confused stayed on stage for a couple minutes and the drummer actually started playing along with the music before they got the hint that they got booted./span>
All in all Scott Weiland always leaves you with some thing to talk about but maybe just not the way he thought it would go.
The dog park
So today I decided to take my dog to the dog park. He's a good size dog Sheppard/lab and had a good time but this one bigger dog kept drooling all over him. It was funny too because any time the dog would go to a person everyone would run away. I guess it would suck being that dog...
