California on fire again
Tis’ the season that California inevitably will catch on fire as it has every year around this time since I can’t even remember when. I am not from Cali, nor do I live there, or ever think that I will, and yet I’m pissed that it’s on fire again. I’m not upset about the millions of acres of forest and farmland that is being destroyed, I’m not concerned that that destruction will probably make the price of everything from produce to milk spike in cost, or the fact that hundreds of homes will be lost, families displaced, business’s ruined, and lives destroyed.
I’m pissed that we live just downwind from what should be renamed “The Burning State” and all the smoke and debris from their problem it in our air. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not an uncaring asshole, I am empathetic to tragedy as
DJ AM -An Interaction Remembered
Things like that his real name is Adam Goldstein, that he used to date Nicole Richie, he was a member of Crazytown, (coincidentally we were just contacted by an attorney representing one of the bands members who threatened to sue us over an image on our webpage of said member drunk at one of our events…weird) when he started spinning in Vegas, how he became known as one of the best DJ’s in the city, who’s name and presence actually had nightclub companies fighting over a contract for his performances. The most recent addition to the Palms, and N9NE Groups’ lineup, he had a contract that few DJ’s will ever see, and many dream about.
My only pseudo interaction with DJ AM was about 4 years ago, I was in the guest list line with some girls at Pure at the time, and being new to the city I didn’t have any of the contacts and friends that I do now, and one of the girls I was with struck up a conversation with an unassuming dark haired guy hanging out by the front ropes. He introduced himself to the rest of the group as Adam, and told us that he would be able to get us in a little quicker if we told the doorman that we were on DJ AM’s guest list.
As I have stated, I was brand new to the city, and had no clue who the hell DJ AM was, but we figured we’d give it a try, since it was a Friday, and some Hollywood starlet was having her birthday party at Pure, making the whole place a madhouse shit-show. Adam disappeared into the club, and we finally flagged down one of the oversized doormen, and told him that we were on DJ AM’s guest list, and asked if there was any way that we could get a line jump, or if there was a way to get in any quicker.
As soon as the doorman heard that we were on DJ AM’s guest list, he pulled us out of the line and ushered us through the ropes, past the cashier, and deposited us in the center of the club, and told us he was sorry that we had waited as long as we had. The dark haired guy that had so casually struck up a conversation, who introduced himself as Adam was in fact DJ AM. Looking back on the experience, I can’t for the life of me figure out why it is that a DJ who was one of the hottest in the city at the time, and spinning at a major nightclub, had taken it upon himself to just randomly get some people that he didn’t know into a packed venue without expecting event so much as a thank you. Maybe that’s just the kind of guy he was deep down.
There will be many people that will be coming forward and divulging numerous accounts of their friendship with a man who’s DJ moniker and skills had brought him fame, fortune, and continued success, I am not one of those. I never had the pleasure to thank him for his kindness, nor did I ever get the opportunity to meet with him again and recount this random story, all I have is a random strange memory of a guy that did something nice for someone that he didn’t know. Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, I hope there’s a club in heaven for you to spin at. Requiescat in pace.
